Week One American and Sun Belt Conference Preview

Week 1 featured American Conference Matchups:
Army at Temple 9/2 7:00 p.m. CBSSN
Temple is coming off a 10-win season since 1979 and their first bowl appearance since 2011. The Owls return QB P.J. Walker and leading RB Jahad Thomas. Army is looking to rebound after a 2-10 season last year. The Black Knights are looking to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2010.
#3 Oklahoma v #15 Houston 9/3 p.m. Houston’s NRG Stadium ABC
Houston enters the year after going 13-1 and winning the American Conference and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Oklahoma finished last year 11-2 after losing to Clemson in the first round of the College Football Playoff. The game is the first of four matchup’s featuring top-25 teams.
San Jose State v Tulsa
The winners of the first annual AutoNation Cure Bowl head to Oklahoma to face a Tulsa team that ended its three-year bowl drought last year. Expect a lot of offense with these two teams.

Week 1 featured Sun Belt Matchups:
Appalachian State v #9 Tennessee 9/1 7:30 p.m. SECN
Tennessee is favored by many to win the SEC East this year after they return 17 starters from a year ago. However, Appalachian State is no stranger to the big stage. In 2007 The Mountaineers shocked the college football world by going to Michigan and defeating the Wolverines in the Big House. Can lightning strike twice for the Mountaineers? Only time will tell.
Toledo at Arkansas State 9/2 9:00 p.m. ESPNU
This game features two teams that both won nine or more games last year and both made it to bowl games. Toledo and Arkansas State played last year with the Rockets winning 37-7 in Akron.
Boise State at Louisiana Lafayette 9/3 12:00 p.m. ESPN3
Boise State is coming off of a nine-win season and a bowl victory and for the last 10 years has been one of the country’s premier mid-major programs. The Ragin’ Cajuns are hoping to turn it around this year after a 4-8 season.
